Zamfara Assembly Introduces Digital System Of Tax Collection

The Zamfara House of Assembly says it will facilitate the introduction of modern system of tax collection as part of its efforts to improve the state Internal Generated Revenue (IGR).

The Chairman of the House Committee of Finance and Appropriation, Alhaji Aliyu Kagara, stated this in Gusau on Friday in an interview with the assembly’s correspondents.

Kagara noted that the assembly had, on Tuesday, passed a bill for local government harmonised rates and levies into law and now waiting for the governor’s assent.

“In the content of the law, there is provision for the use of digital machines in the collection of taxes and levies across the state.

”This, I believe will ensure sanity and effectiveness in the process of tax collection in the state,” he said.

According to him, the assembly is highly committed to provide various ways of sourcing income to the state, to improve its IGR.

“If you look at the current economic challenges facing the country, there is need for the state governments to provide other ways of generating income.

He said this had become necessary more especially for states like Zamfara that depended largely on Federal Government allocation.

The lawmaker, therefore, commended the GEMS 3, a non-governmental organisation, and other stakeholders, for their commitment for the smooth passage of the bill.

He called on the general public to continue to cooperate with the government’s policies, to promote the state. (NAN)
