With just result for one more local government area out of 23 local government areas to go in Benue, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Samuel Ortom is winning the governorship elections with over 91,000 votes ahead of his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Terhemen Tarzoor.
APC has so far polled a total of 394,047 votes while the PDP has scored a total of 302,324 with a wide difference of 91,734 votes. The APC has won in 12 local government areas while the PDP won in 10 local governments. Results from Buruku was still being awaited at the time of filing this report.
This is even as the PDP has so far won 15 out of the 30 seats in the state House of Assembly while APC has 10 and the Labour Party won one seat just as five more results were still being awaited at the time of filing this report.
Already, there are speculations in town that the incumbent Governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam of the PDP has called to congratulate Ortom on his victory while a congratulatory call was still being awaited from Tarzoor at the time of filing this report.
Daily Sun gathered that the PDP gubernatorial candidate is not taking the defeat lightly but was trying to be calm as a man. When our correspondent drove past Tarzoor’s Makurdi residence at about 6:30pm yesterday, the usually busy street was deserted.
There was however wild jubilation in Ortom’s Judges Quarters residence as his supporters besieged his home to celebrate his victory while the results were still being announced local government by local government at the INEC head office in Makurdi.
