INEC declares Imo governorship election inconclusive


The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) has declared Imo State governorship election inclusive.

In the total result announced by the State Returning Officer, Professor Ibidapo Obe, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Rochas Okorocha, polled a total of 385071, while his closest rival Hon.Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Emeka Ihedioha scored 306142.

According to the Returning Officer, the election was declared inconclusive because the total number of votes in areas where election could not hold was higher than the margin between the two leading candidates.

The APC candidate was leading his closest rival with a total number of 79,529, while the number in the affected areas was 144715.

The total number of accredited voters was 735689, while the number of vote cast was 758539 and rejected vote was 22850.

The affected LGAs are Ideato North/ Ideato South and Ahiazu Mbaise.
