Jonathan, Buhari in crucial meeting

President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), were on Friday locked in a crucial meeting inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja for about 30 minutes.

The meeting tagged, “private” by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, when contacted to confirm the development which took place in the new Banquet Hall inside the president’s office.

The meeting is the first the two leaders would have since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Gen. Buhari winner of the March 28 presidential election.

President Jonathan had on Tuesday, called at 5.15 pm, to congratulate Gen. Buhari hours before the INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, declared him winner in which President Jonathan lost with 2,571,521.

Buhari was said to be accompanied by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odiegie-Oyegun.

The chairman of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar (retd.), was also said to be part of the meeting.

Abubakar, also former Head of State, was said to have arrived at the Presidential Villa ahead of Buhari.
