Jubilation over Buhari’s victory: 10 die in Zaria

No fewer than 10 people died while several others were injured yes­terday during celebration of the victory of All Pro­gressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Bu­hari, in Zaria.

The victims, who were mostly youths, died when they embarked on reckless driving of cars and motor­cycles.

An eyewitness, Ibrahim Maihula of Bakin Kasuwa, stated that many young per­sons, including girls, died while several people sus­tained injuries during the celebration.

According to him, at Karauka in Zaria, a Toyota Carina ran into a crowd, killing three teenage girls instantly, while some oth­ers, including children, were rushed to hospital.

Another witness, Magaji Mustafa, told us that at Kanfage area in Zaria, some persons died while displaying on their motor­cycles

Similar incident occurred at Unguwan Juma, where a truck carrying scores of youths lost control and ran into a nearby house, kill­ing three people. The same incident happened at Tudun Wada where three persons, including a woman, were crushed by a vehicle and motorcycles.

Confirming the incidents, spokesman of Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, said he was only aware of a case of four teenage girls killed by a vehicle.
