The Deputy Senate Chairman on Army and Defence,Senator Bindo Mohammed Jibrilla has been declared the winner of the 2015 governorship election in Adamawa State.
Jibrilla,who is of the All Progressives Congress, APC polled 362,329 out of 706,092 votes cast,to defeat the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP,) Engr Markus Gundiri who polled 181,806 votes to be come second in the governorship race
The Returning Officer of the governorship election in the state,Professor Geoffrey Okogbaa, who declared the results of the elections at collation Centre at General Murtala Memorial College (GMMC) , Yola, said Senator Jibrilla won with a wide margin to emerge winner of the election.
Professor Okugbaa said the total numbers of votes cast during the elections was 706092 adding that 684050 votes were valid and 22042 votes were rejected .
Professor Geoffrey Okogbaa, Vice – Chancellor , Federal University of Wukari therefore declared Jibrilla as the winner of the April 11governorship elections in the state.
“Senator Mohammed Bindow Jibrilla having satisfied the requirement of law and scored the highest numbers of votes is hereby declared the winner of the April 11 elections in Adamawa state”.
Okogbaa also declared that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , Mallam Nuhu Ribadu scored 98,917 votes to emerge third in the governorship race while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), DR Ahmed Modibbo polled 32,985 votes to come fourth in the race.
The Returning Officer declared that the total numbers of votes cast during the elections was 706092, while 684050 votes were valid and 22042 votes were rejected .
A number of politicians and stakeholders described the governorship polls as peaceful and hitch- free and lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, for improving on the use of card readers which made the governorship polls less cumbersome.
Reacting to the verdict,the Secretary of the APC in the state, Abdullahi Bakari said the credit should go to the Adamawa electorate who found APC worthy and voted the party’s candidate to pilot the affairs of the state..
He assured that the APC governor elect would not disappoint the people adding that he believed that Jibrilla will make APC proud because he has done it in his constituency as a senator representing the state Northern Senatorial Zone.
According to him,the track records are there for anybody who want to find out his going strides in terms of legislation and development. .
” We thanked the Adamawa people for a job well done and l want to use this opportunity to congratulate our governorship candidate and the party and its stakeholders for mobilizing the people to support the APC in the just concluded governorship elections” he said.
Also reacting ,the Agent of the SDP said the results have spoken , whether anybody like or not the Adamawa people have decided
But declined further comments as Barrister AT shehu Agent of the PDP at the collation centre expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections
He said if he was not satisfied with the outcome he wouldn’t have endorsed his signature on the result sheets.
